Books Don't Grow On Trees

Without talented people creating words & pictures our books would be much less interesting.

Steve Wallis

Steve Wallis has been writing & performing poetry for forty years. His work has appeared on BBC Radios 3 & 4, and in 2021 he was commissioned by BBC Berkshire to create a poem of recognition for the county's response to the Covid crisis.

His recent work includes 'Common Words', a poetic history of Greenham Common, and 'Along The Way', tracing the route of the Kennet & Avon canal in poetry, both published by Tawny Owl Press of Newbury, UK.

Isabel Carmona

Isabel Carmona paints, prints and draws in a style full of colour.  The co-founder of City Arts Newbury, UK, she takes part yearly in West Berkshire and North Hampshire Open Studios.

She is an avid sketcher, taking her sketchbook everywhere. Stopping to sketch allows stories and anecdotes to arise, which inform the development of her work. She is interested in how words inspire art and has been delighted to collaborate in this project responding to Steve Wallis's poetic tale.
